Beyond the Primaries: Why Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa Deserves Our Respect

Politics is often characterized by differing opinions, competing interests, and spirited contests. Primary elections naturally produce winners and leave others disappointed. However, once the contest is over, wisdom demands that personal preferences give way to the collective interest of the party and the progress of the state.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa is the duly elected Governor of Ondo State and, by virtue of that office, the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state. Regardless of individual affiliations, political tendencies, or the outcome of any primary election, respect for constituted leadership is essential to the unity, stability, and strength of our great party.

Every member of the APC, irrespective of the political tendency or support base to which they belong, should recognize the Governor’s position and accord him the honour, respect, and cooperation that his office deserves. Internal competition should never become a basis for undermining the leadership entrusted with the responsibility of governing our state.

From my personal observation over the years, I have come to regard Governor Ayedatiwa as a thoughtful and strategic leader. I have never had the privilege of working closely with him or enjoying personal access to him. My opinion is therefore not based on personal acquaintance but on my observation of his leadership and governance. While he may not be the most flamboyant or outspoken politician, and though many affectionately refer to him as “Mabaja,” I believe his greatest strengths lie in strategic thinking, courage of conviction, calm decision-making, and a steadfast commitment to the development of Ondo State.

Leadership is not measured merely by eloquence but by vision, character, resilience, and the ability to make decisions that secure lasting progress. In my view, these are qualities Governor Ayedatiwa has demonstrated in the discharge of his responsibilities.

As members of one political family, let us rise above divisions and avoid actions or utterances capable of weakening our collective strength. Differences arising from party primaries should never diminish our respect for the office of the Governor or our commitment to the unity and success of the APC. Strong institutions and enduring political parties are built on discipline, mutual respect, loyalty, and a shared commitment to the common good.

I therefore appeal to every APC member across Ondo State to place the interest of the party above individual sentiments. Let us honour our leaders, preserve our unity, and work together for the continued progress of Ondo State and the enduring success of our great party.
