DR. EZEKIEL AKANDE UNVEILS VISION FOR A GREATER ONDO STATE, SEEKS STRONG PARTNERSHIP WITH PUBLISHERS AND BLOGGERS
Medical practitioner, entrepreneur, media investor and community development advocate, Dr. Ezekiel Akande, has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the development of Ondo State, declaring that sustainable progress can only be achieved through responsible leadership, quality healthcare, youth empowerment, media development and strategic partnership with the media.
Dr. Akande made this known while addressing members of the Association of Independent Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (AINPN), Ondo State Chapter, during an interactive session held on Tuesday, 30th June, 2026, at the association’s secretariat in Akure.
The interactive meeting, which brought together newspaper publishers and online media practitioners, provided Dr. Akande with the opportunity to formally introduce himself, share his vision for Ondo State and outline the various developmental initiatives he has championed over the years.
In his address, Dr. Akande expressed profound appreciation to publishers, bloggers, online journalists and content creators for their invaluable role in shaping public opinion and promoting societal development.
According to him, modern media practitioners have become powerful drivers of public enlightenment, adding that credible information dissemination remains a critical pillar for good governance and national development.
Reflecting on his journey, Dr. Akande described himself as a proud son of Ondo State whose passion for service has remained unwavering despite years of professional practice and investment outside the state.
He highlighted his achievements as a medical doctor, entrepreneur, investor and proprietor of Glow 99.1 FM Akure, explaining that the radio station was established not merely as a business venture but as a platform dedicated to educating the people, promoting the rich cultural heritage of Ondo State, encouraging good governance and providing quality programmes that inspire development.
He noted that Glow FM has consistently championed programmes on healthcare, education, youth development, politics, religion, sports, entertainment, women empowerment and community advancement, stressing that radio continues to serve as one of the most effective channels for reaching the grassroots.
Speaking further, Dr. Akande unveiled the vision behind the Glow Health Outreach Initiative, a humanitarian programme established to improve access to quality healthcare through free medical outreaches, preventive healthcare campaigns, health education and support for underserved communities.
He lamented that many Nigerians continue to suffer from preventable illnesses due to inadequate information, poverty, late diagnosis and limited access to healthcare, assuring that the initiative would continue to bridge these gaps and improve the wellbeing of the people.
On governance, Dr. Akande maintained that the future of Ondo State requires the active participation of professionals, entrepreneurs, investors and individuals with proven records of service, rather than leaving governance solely in the hands of career politicians.
“I stand for responsible leadership, youth empowerment, better healthcare access, media development, job creation, discipline, integrity and accountability. My desire is to see a more enlightened, confident and productive Ondo State,” he declared.
He appealed to publishers, bloggers and digital media professionals to partner with him in promoting truthful, balanced and development-oriented information capable of inspiring hope and mobilising citizens towards building a better society.
According to him, the purpose of the engagement was not to impose opinions but to build lasting relationships with media practitioners, understand the aspirations of the people and work together in advancing the collective interest of Ondo State.
The session later featured an engaging question-and-answer segment during which members of the association sought clarification on various issues relating to governance, healthcare, youth development, media investment and his future aspirations. Dr. Akande responded comprehensively to the questions, reaffirming his commitment to transparency, accountability and inclusive development.
In his remarks, the President of the Association of Independent Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (AINPN), Ondo State Chapter, Mr. Olasenin Oyesusi, commended Dr. Akande for his remarkable contributions to the socio-economic development of Ondo State.
Mr. Oyesusi particularly applauded the establishment of Glow 99.1 FM and other investment initiatives that have created employment opportunities for numerous youths and adults across the state.
He described Dr. Akande as a visionary whose investments continue to contribute meaningfully to economic growth, information dissemination and human capital development, urging other well-meaning individuals to emulate his commitment to the progress of Ondo State.
The interactive meeting ended on a note of optimism, with participants expressing confidence that stronger collaboration between responsible media practitioners and development-minded stakeholders would further accelerate the growth and transformation of Ondo State.
