Idanre Education Summit Charts a New Path for Discipline, Attendance, and Quality Learning
The Area Education Office, Owena–Idanre, under the Ondo State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, on Tuesday, March 3, 2026, convened a landmark Education Stakeholders Meeting to address the critical areas of challenges peculiar to the community.
The summit held at the Better Life Hall, LA Field, Odode -Idanre With the theme: “Restoring Discipline, Improving Attendance, and Strengthening Learning Outcomes for Sustainable Education Development in Idanre Local Government,” brought together a wide range of stakeholders across the education sector.
In attendance were representatives from 11 secondary schools, 72 primary schools, numerous private schools, traditional rulers, religious leaders, parents, education administrators, and community leaders committed to improving the future of education in the area.
In her welcome and opening address, the Area Education Officer (AEO) of Idanre, Mrs. Adeniyi Olulani, described the gathering as a crucial moment of reflection and action for the education system in the local government saying, that education remains the bedrock of sustainable development and the most reliable instrument for building human capital, social stability, and economic progress.
According to her, the summit was convened to examine pressing challenges such as late resumption of students after school reopening, truancy, roaming during school hours, absenteeism on market days, parental interference in school disciplinary processes, and persistent poor performance in the Primary Six Common Entrance Examination.
She noted that addressing these issues requires a collective effort from parents, teachers, communities, and government authorities.
Delivering his keynote address, Mr. Obajulaye Oluwadayiro, Director of Inspectorate and Quality Assurance in the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, highlighted the importance of shared responsibility in shaping the future of children.
He stressed that education does not begin and end within the classroom but is a partnership among families, schools, communities, and government.
He called on parents to actively support their children’s learning at home, schools to maintain high teaching standards and inclusive learning environments, and communities to create conditions that encourage academic success. According to him, when these pillars work together, education flourishes and the society benefits.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Idanre Local Government Area, Barr. Smart Omotadowa, described the summit as timely and capable of transforming the lives of young people in the community.
He expressed confidence that the resolutions from the meeting would positively impact the younger generation and strengthen educational development across the local government.
Also delivering a goodwill message, Chief Mrs. Aderonke Akindolire, the Education Secretary of the Idanre Local Government Education Authority, commended the AEO for organizing the summit at a crucial time.
She noted that the initiative would strengthen the foundation of education in the area and contribute significantly to securing the future of both the state and the nation.
She also urged parents to take greater responsibility for the upbringing and academic progress of their children, while encouraging teachers to remain dedicated role models.
The meeting featured insightful discussions on truancy and absenteeism, presented by Mrs. G. O. Ilori, who identified several factors affecting school attendance, including family challenges, peer pressure, bullying, school environment issues, transportation difficulties, and mental health concerns. she explained that these factors often lead to poor academic performance, increased dropout rates, and negative social consequences.
she recommended early identification of at-risk students, incentives for good attendance, stronger parental involvement, and making school environments more engaging and welcoming for learners.
Traditional leaders, parents, and education stakeholders also lent their voices to the discussion. A parent representative, Mr. Akinwole Solomon, popularly known as King, described the summit as worthwhile and called for such engagements to be held quarterly.
Oba Akin Ogunnika also praised the leadership of the education authorities in Idanre for the initiative, noting that education remains the future of every society and urging all stakeholders to remain committed to their responsibilities.
Similarly, the ANCOPSS Chairperson for Idanre Local Government and Principal of Ilemobola Grammar School, Mrs. Akinnuoye, commended the organizers and advocated for continuous efforts to curb truancy and absenteeism, including discouraging students from bringing mobile phones to school.
Adding the voice of market leaders, High Chief Lola Oladehin, the Iyaloja of Alade-Idanre, emphasized the importance of students resuming academic activities immediately schools reopen, urging both teachers and parents to play their roles effectively.
Representatives of traditional institutions and the National Orientation Agency also called on parents to improve their approach to child upbringing, noting that children spend most of their time at home and therefore require proper guidance and discipline.
The summit concluded with a renewed commitment from all participants to work together in restoring discipline in schools, improving student attendance, and strengthening learning outcomes across Idanre Local Government Area.
Stakeholders expressed optimism that the resolutions and action plans emerging from the meeting would mark the beginning of a new chapter for education development in the area, ensuring that every child receives quality learning opportunities and a brighter future.
