Okeigbo Youths Protest Alleged Imposition of Monarch
— Chiefs Reaffirm Commitment to Peace, Unity and Due Process
Hundreds of youths from Oke-Igbo community on Monday, October 26, 2025, staged simultaneous protests in Okeigbo and Akure, the Ondo State capital, to express their rejection of what they described as the imposition of a new monarch on their community.
The demonstrators, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “We don’t need imposition of Oba in Okeigbo,” “Wait for Appeal Court Judgment before proceeding,” and “We want peace in Oke-Igbo,” called for fairness and respect for the rule of law in the selection and appointment of the next Oluoke of Okeigbo.
Addressing the protesters on behalf of the Oluoke Chiefs-In-Council, the Chairman, High Chief Deji Akintokunbo, through the Council’s Secretary, Chief Oloyede Lawrence, reaffirmed the Council’s dedication to the community’s enduring values of unity, selfless service, and sustainable development.
In a statement made available to journalists the Chiefs emphasized their unwavering commitment to peace and dialogue.
“We will continue to prioritize tolerance, respect for constituted authorities, and peaceful dialogue in resolving our differences,” the statement read. “Our collective goal is to build a brighter Okeigbo where every voice is heard and every contribution is valued.”
Meanwhile, the Ondo State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Amidu Takuro, who met with leaders of the protesting youths in his Akure office, assured them that his ministry would abide by the court’s judgment regarding the Oluoke stool.
