ENGR. A.A. ADEYONU BECOMES 5TH CHAIRMAN OF AKURE NIEEE AS INSTITUTE HONOURS EMINENT NIGERIANS FOR OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE
In a momentous occasion marked by celebration and recognition, the Nigerian Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE), Akure Chapter, inaugurated its 5th Executive Committee, with Engr. Adedokun Adeyemi Adeyonu taking the helm as Chairman. The event also featured the conferral of awards on distinguished Nigerians whose contributions to engineering and national development have been exceptional.
The grand ceremony took place on Thursday, July 3rd, 2025, at the prestigious Winners Event Centre in Ijapo, Akure, Ondo State. The venue brimmed with distinguished guests and dignitaries from across the country, representing diverse professional fields and leadership circles.
Engr. Adeyonu, in his inaugural address, expressed profound gratitude for the trust reposed in him. He emphasized that his administration would prioritize the eradication of quackery in the profession and champion improved welfare for both elderly and active members of the institute.
He further disclosed plans to embark on an aggressive membership drive aimed at expanding the institute’s network across Ondo State. In addition, his team is set to partner with relevant stakeholders in the power and energy sector to enhance electricity stability across the region.
“We have taken careful note of the address by our guest speaker, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi, Special Adviser to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa on Power and Energy. He rightly pointed out that Ondo State currently leads in the administration of energy and power in Nigeria,” Engr. Adeyonu remarked.
Also in attendance was Engr. Sunday Buhari, Chairman of BEDC, Kogi State, who lauded the unity and strides recorded by the Ondo State chapter of NIEEE. He expressed optimism about the ongoing deregulation of the power sector under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that it would promote fair redistribution of electricity to underserved areas.
Delivering his keynote lecture, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Alabi gave assurances that the era of estimated billing would soon be a thing of the past in Ondo State. He emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that citizens no longer bear the cost of infrastructure like transformers and electrical wires, thanks to investor-friendly policies currently being implemented.
Among those honoured was Akogun Tunji Adeleye, the Commander of Amotekun Corps, who received a merit award in recognition of his enduring legacy in electrical and electronic engineering. His contributions have transcended professional practice, extending into the security sector where he has played a transformative role.
Akogun Adeleye’s efforts, particularly in the establishment and efficient operation of the Amotekun Corps, have significantly contributed to peace and stability in Ondo State. His strategic leadership has been instrumental in safeguarding lives and properties across the region.
Speaking with journalists after receiving his award, Adeleye expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ondo State. He particularly acknowledged Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for entrusting him with key responsibilities and dedicated the award to him in appreciation of his unwavering support.
