Ogunleye Bows Out, Fayehun Takes Over As ACHPN Ondo Chairman

The Association of Community Health Practitioners of Nigeria (ACHPN), Ondo State Chapter, has elected Comrade Fayehun Tope Charity as its new State Chairman at its State Delegates Conference held on Friday, 23rd October, 2026.

Comrade Fayehun emerged as Chairman at the conference which brought together delegates from the 18 Local Government Areas of the State, leaders of the Association, government representatives and stakeholders in the health sector.

In his acceptance speech and vote of thanks, the newly elected Chairman appreciated members for the trust, prayers and support reposed in him.

“I sincerely appreciate all members for your trust, prayers, and support in electing me as Chairman of ACHPN Ondo State Chapter. I pledge my commitment to unity, transparency, members’ welfare, and the growth of our Association. I count on your continued cooperation as we move forward together,” Comrade Fayehun said.

Earlier, the outgoing State Chairman, Comrade J. F. Ogunleye, delivered his stewardship account, reviewing the achievements of his administration from 2022 to 2026.

Comrade Ogunleye said his administration focused on restoring unity after the crises that threatened the Association before and after the 2022 Delegates Conference, through dialogue and constructive engagement with employers and government.

He listed employment of over 500 Community Health Practitioners through the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency and over 60 members through the State Hospital Management Board as major achievements.

According to him, newly employed members under the Primary Health Care Development Agency were granted a one-year advancement to Grade Level 8, while progress was recorded in addressing conversion-related placement challenges for members who underwent conversion between 2015 and 2020.

On Secretariat and property development, Ogunleye disclosed that his administration installed a 10-kVA solar power system, provided air-conditioning units and additional chairs at the State Secretariat. He also said work has advanced on the two plots of land acquired by former leader, Comrade S. O. Olowu, with a functional borehole sunk, a large rock covering 30 per cent of the land crumbled, and foundation work for a proposed 1,000-capacity event centre and double two-bedroom flat now 95 per cent complete.

He appreciated the Governor of Ondo State, the former Permanent Secretary of the Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr Akabiemu, the Acting Chairman of the Hospital Management Board, Dr Akeredolu, and the Special Adviser to the Governor on Union and Labour Matters, Comrade Bola Taiwo, for their support.

Ogunleye urged the incoming executive to prioritize the pursuit of Grade Level 17 for qualified Community Health Officers in Ondo State, citing precedents in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo and other States, and to complete ongoing projects with transparency.

He called for a peaceful and credible election, stating that there should be no winner or loser after the election.

“Remember that there are no permanent winners, no permanent losers. One Association, one professional family, one common purpose. The only winner should be ACHPN, Ondo State Chapter,” he said.

The conference was attended by the representative of the Governor, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, leadership of the Ondo State Primary Health Care Development Agency, representative of the National President of ACHPN, zonal executives and delegates from across the state.

Also elected was Comrade Ajayi babatunde Benjamin (Secretary) and other Executives.
