ASUSS Leadership Visits Ondo Education Commissioner, Champions Teachers’ Welfare and Better Learning Environment
The State Executive Council of the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), Ondo State Chapter, led by its Chairman, Comrade (Hon.) Amuda Tairu Abiola, JP, has paid a courtesy visit to the Honourable Commissioner for Education, Ondo State, to deliberate on issues affecting teachers’ welfare and the overall development of secondary education across the state.
The strategic engagement, which took place on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, provided an avenue for the ASUSS leadership to interact with the Commissioner and present matters considered important to the wellbeing of teachers and the effective administration of secondary schools. The union stressed the need for continued collaboration between government and education stakeholders in addressing challenges confronting the sector.
Speaking during the visit, the ASUSS State Chairman, Comrade (Hon.) Amuda Tairu Abiola, JP, highlighted the importance of prioritising teachers’ welfare, noting that motivated and adequately supported teachers remain critical to the delivery of quality education. He also called for practical measures to address some of the challenges confronting secondary schools, with a view to creating a more conducive environment for teaching and learning.
The union leadership further emphasised the need for sustained dialogue between ASUSS and the state government, assuring that the union remains committed to constructive engagement aimed at finding lasting solutions to challenges within the education sector. The visit was therefore seen as an opportunity to strengthen the existing relationship between the union and the Ministry of Education in the collective interest of teachers, students and the state.
The courtesy visit ended on a positive note, with both sides recognising the importance of cooperation, mutual understanding and continuous consultation in advancing secondary education in Ondo State. The ASUSS leadership expressed optimism that the issues raised would receive the necessary attention, while reaffirming its commitment to supporting initiatives that will improve teachers’ welfare and enhance the standard of education across the state.
