JOHN ALABA ALIU: A TRAILBLAZING JOURNALIST, DEDICATED MINISTER OF GOD AND LEADER OF DISTINCTION

 

John Alaba Aliu was born on December 10, 1980, into the respected family of Mr. Aliu Raji of Akure and Mrs. Florence Owolabi, a prominent daughter of Oda Community in Akure East Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Ondo State. His roots are deeply connected to the rich cultural heritage of Akure Kingdom, where he was raised with strong moral values, discipline, and a passion for excellence.

Born into a Muslim family and originally named Yusuf, his academic records bear the name Alaba, a name traditionally given to a child born after a set of twins in Yoruba culture. From an early age, he displayed remarkable intelligence, leadership qualities, and a strong desire for learning.

His educational journey began at CAC St. John Primary School, Oke-Igan, Akure, before he proceeded to LA Primary School, Idi-Agba Titun, Akure. He later completed his primary education at St. James Anglican Primary School, Oda Community, where he studied between 1990 and 1994. Determined to excel academically, he attended Ogbe High School, Oda, from 1994 to 2000 and distinguished himself as an outstanding student.

Driven by his passion for communication and media, John Alaba Aliu gained admission into Unicotech Polytechnic, now known as Ife City Polytechnic, Ile-Ife, Osun State, where he obtained a National Diploma in Mass Communication. He further broadened his academic horizon through studies at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Akure Study Centre.

A significant turning point in his life came in 1999 when he surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and became a born-again Christian after joining the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). Since then, he has remained steadfast in his Christian faith and spiritual development. He attended the RCCG School of Disciples and successfully obtained a Diploma Certificate. He also completed the RCCG Bible College (RBC) programme, the Accelerated House Fellowship Leadership Training, and earned a Certificate in Discipleship at Praise House.

His commitment to the work of God has seen him serve faithfully in various capacities within the Redeemed Christian Church of God. His ministerial journey began at Charity Parish, Oda, and later took him to Alpha and Omega Parish, Adonai Parish, Eleye, Ile-Ife, Osun State. He subsequently served as Pastor-in-Charge of Pillar of Life Parish and is currently serving at Way of Peace Parish, Akure, where he continues to impact lives through dedicated service and spiritual leadership.

Beyond ministry, John Alaba Aliu has built an impressive career in journalism and media practice. His professional journey began with Odua Voice Newspaper, where he served as a Reporter between 2003 and 2005. He later worked with Hope Newspaper from 2007 to 2009 and Sunshine Daily Newspaper from 2009 to 2011 as a Senior Reporter. His passion for investigative reporting, community development, and objective journalism earned him widespread recognition within the media industry.

His dedication and professionalism eventually led him to serve as Managing Editor of Trace Magazine. Building on his wealth of experience and vision for impactful journalism, he founded and became the Publisher of Democrat News Magazine in 2018. Under his leadership, the publication has continued to grow as a respected platform for developmental journalism, public enlightenment, and recognition of excellence across various sectors of society.

In recognition of his leadership qualities and contributions to the journalism profession, John Alaba Aliu was elected Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federated Chapel, Ondo State Council, on August 17, 2023. Since assuming office, he has recorded remarkable achievements, strengthened professional unity among members, and championed initiatives that have positively impacted the welfare and growth of the chapel.

On the family front, he is a devoted husband and loving father. In 2015, he married his beloved wife, Alice Omotola Alaba, and their union has been blessed with godly children. Together, they continue to build a family founded on faith, love, integrity and service to God and humanity.

Today, John Alaba Aliu stands as a shining example of dedication, perseverance, and service. As a journalist, publisher, church minister, community advocate, and leader, he has continued to leave an indelible mark on society. His life remains a testament to the power of faith, hard work, integrity, and unwavering commitment to the advancement of humanity and the glory of God.
