The Chairman of PTA St. Joseph Catholic High School and the General Chairman of PTA in Idanre Local Government firmly debunked claims of illegal WAEC fee collection, describing the allegations as misleading and unfounded.
Reacting during a chat with the Democrat News Magazine in Akure on Monday, February 9, 2026, clarified that his school operates strictly within government-approved financial guidelines.
Pastor Akinmuyisitan Emmanuel, the PTA Chairman for both St. Joseph Catholic Grammar School and the Local Government, confirmed that the Governor, through the Honourable Commissioner for Education, had issued a clear warning to principals against illegal collections—a directive equally reinforced by the Chairman of ANCOPSS.
He disclosed that the only fee officially remitted to government for WAEC was ₦7,000, while any other payments made into separate accounts were legitimate charges such as TOTEM, cloud services, identity cards, and approved school fees.
Pastor Akinmuyisitan further explained that Idanre remains a peculiar community where parents traditionally prefer one-time payments due to seasonal farming income. Missing that window often makes future payments difficult. As such, the PTA consistently encourages parents during meetings to settle all approved fees promptly to avoid indebtedness and administrative challenges.
He commending the Honourable Commissioner for Education for his proactive leadership, expressing confidence that principals across the state would continue to uphold integrity and discipline in line with government policy. “I believe no principal will misbehave under this present administration,” he affirmed.
According to him, St. Joseph Catholic Grammar School collects only authorized charges, stressing that what may have been misunderstood was merely the consolidation of approved fees during the WAEC registration period.
He explained that this arrangement was adopted purely for convenience, as experience has shown that any payment not completed before or during WAEC registration often becomes impossible to recover afterward.
He further noted that parents willingly agreed to the bulk payment system, particularly because the period coincides with their peak farming and cocoa business season.
