RUGIPO Alumni Commissions Alumni Building, Ratifies Constitution, and Inducts New Members in Grand Style
The Rufus Giwa Polytechnic (RUGIPO) Alumni Association, under the leadership of its National President, Engr. (Chief) Adesina Adeola Victor, has commissioned its newly completed Alumni Building in a colourful and well-attended ceremony held on Thursday, October 24, 2025, at the institution’s premises in Owo, Ondo State.
The event drew dignitaries from across various sectors, including representatives of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) led by Rt. Hon. Sunday Adepoju, a Board of Trustees member representing the Southwest, as well as members of the Polytechnic’s Management Team.
In his remarks, Rt. Hon. Sunday Adepoju noted that the achievement was expected of a forward-thinking alumni body and emphasized the need for more developmental projects. He called for continued partnership between the Alumni Association and the Polytechnic’s management to further enhance academic excellence and infrastructure. Adepoju described the Alumni as “key partners in shaping the future of their alma mater” and urged members to initiate more impactful projects that would elevate the institution’s profile. He also commissioned several infrastructural projects donated by TETFund, commending the Polytechnic’s leadership for its prudent use of resources.
The occasion also featured the groundbreaking ceremony for an ultra-modern lock-up shop complex, a project envisioned to boost the institution’s internally generated revenue and create commercial opportunities for the campus community. The groundbreaking was jointly performed by HRM. Adako Ebiyanmi, the Oliyere of Iyere, and a representative of the Distinguished Senator of Ondo North Senatorial District, Olajide Ipisagba adding colour and prestige to the ceremony. In attendance to add value to the event is the commissioner for water resources ondo state, Hon. Ayodele Akande .
In his address, Engr. (Chief) Adesina Adeola Victor emphasized the importance of the new Alumni Building, describing it as “a resource centre for students and a unifying platform for all members of the association across the world — a legacy project that will bind us together for a common goal.”
Following the groundbreaking, the Alumni Association also took a bold step in institutional reform by announcing and ratifying its reviewed Constitution. The ratified document, according to the leadership, aims to strengthen the association’s governance framework, promote transparency, and ensure continuity and accountability in administration.
In the same spirit of reform, the Congress of the Association, acting in accordance with its constitutional powers, dissolved the existing Board of Trustees (BOT) to pave the way for the reconstitution of a new board that reflects the renewed vision, inclusiveness, and accountability structure of the Alumni Association. This decision, which was reached through a collective resolution, signifies the members’ commitment to upholding democratic principles and promoting effective governance within the Association.
Speaking on the milestone, Engr. (Chief) Adesina Adeola Victor described the ratification as “a new dawn for the RUGIPO Alumni family.”
“With this constitution, we have laid a solid foundation for unity, accountability, and sustainable progress. Our focus is to make this association a model of alumni excellence that continues to support the growth of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic and contribute meaningfully to national development,” he said.
The day’s activities reflected unity, foresight, and commitment among RUGIPO Alumni from numerous chapters, including Owo, Akure, Lagos, Ikare, Abuja, Ilaje, Emure, Kaduna, and Ado, among others. Their collective participation reaffirmed the association’s dedication to advancing Rufus Giwa Polytechnic as a beacon of technical and entrepreneurial excellence in Nigeria.
The activities of the Alumni Association continued on Friday, October 25, 2025, during the Convocation Ceremony of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo. At the event, a representative of the Governing Council, Engr. (Chief) Adesina Adeola Victor, delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the 12th Governing Council of the Institution, as a statutory member.
He commended the State Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, for his unwavering support in restoring academic culture to the institution through the resumption of convocation ceremonies and his funding interventions. On behalf of the Council, he assured that the Governing Board remains committed to formulating policies aimed at accelerating institutional development, with the ultimate goal of positioning the Polytechnic to achieve its primary objective ;using technology to advance the course of mankind.
He also used the occasion to appeal to the State Government to expedite the appointment of a substantive Chairman for the Council to further strengthen governance and administrative stability.
In a significant highlight of the day, Engr. (Chief) Adesina Adeola Victor, in his capacity as the Alumni National President, formally inducted newly graduated students into the Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Alumni Association, marking their transition from students to proud ambassadors of their alma mater. The induction ceremony, conducted in collaboration with the National Executive Council of the Alumni Association, symbolized a new beginning for the inductees as contributors to the growth and development of the institution.
The newly inducted members were encouraged by the National PRO of the Association, Engr. Asulewon Samuel Igbekele (Banty), to uphold the values of excellence, service, and unity principles that have continued to define the RUGIPO Alumni community worldwide. The Alumni leadership reaffirmed its commitment to fostering engagement among members and supporting initiatives that empower graduates and strengthen the bond between the institution and its alumni family.
