Former Ondo Assembly Members Congratulate Governor Aiyedatiwa on Landmark Supreme Court Victory

…Hail Triumph of Democracy, Rule of Law, and People’s Mandate

The Forum of Former Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly, under the leadership of Hon. Olugbenga Araoyinbo, has extended heartfelt congratulations to Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, his Deputy, Dr. Olaide Adelami, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) on their resounding victory at the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court ruling, delivered in Abuja on Wednesday, brings final closure to the legal battle surrounding the November 16, 2024, governorship election in Ondo State. The apex court dismissed the appeals brought by opposition candidates, affirming the legitimacy of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s mandate.

In a joint statement signed by Hon. Olugbenga Araoyinbo, Convener of the Forum, and Hon. Tayo Abidakun, the Forum’s Spokesperson, the group hailed the verdict as “a triumph of democracy and the sovereign will of the people.”

The lead appeal, filed by Hon. Agboola Ajayi of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), was formally withdrawn after consultations within his party. The Supreme Court panel, chaired by Justice Inyang Okoro, also dismissed the related appeals from Bamidele Akingboye of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and Ogunfeyimi Kolawole of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).

With the legal dust now fully settled, the Forum described the judgment as “a historic affirmation of the rule of law and a resounding testament to the credibility of Nigeria’s judicial system.”

The Forum commended Governor Aiyedatiwa’s legal team for their professionalism and applauded the APC’s State Chairman, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, for his strategic leadership that led the party to victory at all levels.

“The will of the people has once again prevailed. It is now time to put litigation behind us and focus on governance, unity, and service to the people of Ondo State,” the statement read.

The Forum emphasized that this victory should serve as a rallying point for inclusive development and called on all stakeholders to join hands with the Aiyedatiwa administration in moving the state forward.
