NOA Idanre LG Leads Charge on Value Reorientation with Massive Sensitization Campaign
In a bold and inspiring move to rekindle core national values, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) in Idanre Local Government has embarked on a far-reaching sensitization campaign focused on value reorientation and civic responsibility. This initiative, part of a broader national effort flagged off by the Ondo State Directorate of the Agency, aims to reshape public attitudes, promote national unity, and reinforce key government policies. The campaign began with strategic visits to traditional leaders and key trade unions, signalling the agency’s grassroots approach to rebuilding the moral fabric of the nation.
Representing the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, Mrs. Helen Babalola led the advocacy team to the Palace of the Adunrajan I of Atosin-Idanre. They were warmly received by His Royal Majesty, Oba Gilbert Olakunle Ogunlowo, Awosunye, and his council of chiefs. In her address, Mrs. Babalola emphasized the agency’s commitment to mobilizing citizens for national development through value reorientation and information dissemination. She detailed the five thematic pillars of the campaign: value reorientation (notably targeting extreme student “sign-out” practices), flood mitigation, security awareness, the national identity project, and sensitization on key government programs like NELFUND, CCT, and SUPA.
Mrs. Babalola highlighted the administration’s resolve to ensure access to education for all willing students through initiatives like NELFUND, as well as providing safety nets for vulnerable populations. At both the palace and a subsequent engagement with the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Idanre, she urged community members to take advantage of available government opportunities, irrespective of political or ethnic leanings. She also stressed the importance of flood prevention, urging residents to heed NIMET warnings and avoid actions that could aggravate environmental risks.
The DG’s representative further appealed to citizens to uphold the revered “Omoluabi” values — integrity, respect, and responsibility — deeply rooted in Yoruba culture. On matters of security, she reminded the public that safety is a collective responsibility and encouraged the prompt reporting of suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities. On the national identity campaign, she underscored the importance of respecting national symbols such as the flag and currency, and correctly rendering the national anthem, as acts of patriotism.
Mrs. Busola Olumide-Atiba, Assistant Director of Orientation and Mobilization for the Local Government, lauded the active participation of the stakeholders and echoed their recommendations. Among these was a strong call to ban extreme “sign-out” practices in schools, improve waste management systems to prevent flooding, and sustain efforts already initiated by the Hon. (Barr.) Smart Omotadowa-led LG council. Stakeholders reiterated their dedication to security collaboration, promising to report any threats to peace and safety within their communities.
The campaign received notable endorsements from community leaders. Oba Gilbert Ogunlowo expressed deep appreciation for the choice of his domain as the first stop in Ondo State, calling for transparency and sincerity in executing government programs. Also lending his voice, the Chairman of NURTW in Idanre, Comrade Adelanke Adegunsoye, praised the timeliness of the campaign, stating that the values being promoted were both urgent and essential. Chief Logbosere of Atosin also called on authorities to take decisive action in outlawing harmful student sign-out practices, setting the tone for real change at the community level.
