Former Ondo Lawmakers Celebrate Minister Tunji-Ojo’s Two Years of Transformational Leadership
Former Members of the Ondo State House of Assembly have extended their heartfelt congratulations to Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on the occasion of his second anniversary in office.
In a press statement signed by Hon. Araoyinbo on behalf of all former members, the group described Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s tenure as “a defining moment in Nigeria’s journey towards modern, effective governance and transformative public service delivery.” They commended his unwavering alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and his commitment to national development.
According to the statement, the Ministry of Interior under Dr. Tunji-Ojo has become “a hub of innovation, reform, and people-centred service.” The former lawmakers highlighted the Minister’s visionary leadership in repositioning critical agencies including the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC).
One of the most celebrated milestones, they noted, was the unprecedented clearance of over 204,000 passport backlogs in just three weeks. They also lauded the introduction of a two-week processing window and the launch of home and office passport delivery services — reforms that have significantly restored public confidence in the immigration system.
“The Immigration Service has undergone a remarkable transformation, becoming a beacon of efficiency and a model for digital border management,” the statement read.
The group also praised Dr. Tunji-Ojo’s bold welfare reforms, including the promotion of over 50,000 paramilitary officers, approval for the recruitment of 30,000 new personnel, introduction of a peculiar allowance, and the long-awaited salary alignment between paramilitary agencies and the Nigeria Police Force.
“These initiatives have not only boosted morale but also enhanced productivity and established new standards of fairness and institutional equity,” they added.
On correctional reforms, the lawmakers commended the Minister’s commitment to decongesting correctional facilities through the payment of fines and compensations totaling ₦585 million — a move that facilitated the release of over 4,000 inmates. They also noted the transformation of custodial centres into genuine rehabilitation institutions and the deployment of a Digital Case Management System as “a groundbreaking step towards a transparent, swift, and just correctional process.”
Additionally, the group applauded the Ministry’s innovative strides in internal security and border management, citing initiatives such as the Safe Haven Project, Smart Border Initiatives, Disaster Response Units, contactless biometrics, electronic visas (e-Visa), e-Gates at airports, and the commissioning of a state-of-the-art Tier 4 Data Centre to support integrated national security infrastructure.
In conclusion, the former lawmakers hailed Dr. Tunji-Ojo as “a visionary reformer and nation-builder,” whose leadership continues to reshape Nigeria’s internal affairs landscape and enhance national security.
