Amb. Ogbaji Esther Funmilayo Honored with ‘Exceptional Mother’ Award by Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria
In a heartwarming celebration of faith, service, and motherhood, Ambassador (Mrs.) Ogbaji Esther Funmilayo was honoured with the Exceptional Mother Award by the Catholic Women Organization of Nigeria (CWON), Catholic Diocese of Ondo.
The award presentation took place during the 16th Annual Harvest Thanksgiving held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Parish, Oke-Aro, Akure, with the theme “Harvest of Divine Upliftment.” The CWON’s 2025 theme, “A Hopeful Woman Walks and Works by Faith” (Hebrews 11:1 & 6), reflected the spirit of the occasion on Saturday 12th of July, 2025.
Amb. Ogbaji Esther Funmilayo (née Adurogboye) hails from Isua, Akoko South East LGA of Ondo State. Born in Lagos in the late 1970s into the family of Late Mr. Abraham Gbadebo Adurogboye and Mrs. Comfort M. Adurogboye, she later relocated with her family to Akure.
She began her education at African Primary School, Akure, and proceeded to St. Messiah Grammar School, Ifetedo, Osun State, where she served as class captain. Her academic journey continued at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, where she earned a National Diploma in Banking and Finance, followed by a degree in Public Administration from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko.
Currently serving as an Information Officer at the Ondo State House of Assembly, she also holds the position of Vice-Chairman of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN) in the state. A woman of integrity, compassion, and leadership, Amb. Ogbaji is known for her tireless dedication to both civic duty and church service.
She has served in numerous leadership roles within the Catholic Women Organization, including:
- Assistant Secretary of the Mary Queen Deaconry
- Former Secretary of Lectors at Mary Queen of Apostles Parish (8 years)
- Former Secretary of the Parish Pastoral Council
- Former Secretary and now President of the Catholic Action of Nigeria, Ondo Diocese
- Presently the Secretary of the Parish Harvest Committee
She is also a Commissioned Lector, a music lover, and a devoted member of the choir in her early years before marrying Mr. Francis Chuks Ogbaji, a supportive and successful husband. The couple is blessed with children and continues to serve actively in the Catholic Diocese of Ondo.
Speaking with Democrat News Magazine, Amb. Ogbaji expressed deep gratitude:
“I’m humbled to be nominated for this award. I return all the glory to God and dedicate it to humanity. I will continue to use my God-given resources and talents in service to the Lord.”
She encouraged women across the diocese to emulate the virtues of faith, diligence, and service.

Chief (Mrs.) Agnes Erogun-Aye highlighted the importance of the gathering for bonding and project development.
Amb. (Dr.) Olagundoye prayed for divine speed in all women-led projects and acknowledged their tireless contributions.
Lady Helen Akinmuda, President of ODCWO, appreciated everyone’s efforts and reminded women to keep their faith anchored in God.
Also present was Sir Chief Abiodun Adejo, among other respected guests who added their voices in support of the celebration.
