Engr Babatunde Omomowo Urges Parents to Embrace Active Role in Youth Mentorship for National Unity
In a heartfelt appeal to strengthen the moral and social fabric of Nigeria, the Chairman of the National Youth of Nigeria (NYCN) Ondo State Council, Engr. Comrade Babatunde Omomowo, has urged parents to embrace their vital responsibilities in raising children and mentoring youths. According to him, this proactive involvement is a powerful tool to combat crime, promote social harmony, and foster national development.
Speaking at a pivotal stakeholder conference organized by the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Ondo State Directorate, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, Omomowo emphasized the significance of parental guidance in shaping the next generation. The event, held at the Federal Secretariat Complex Conference Room on Igbatoro Road in Akure, brought together key figures committed to strengthening the values that unify the nation.
Omomowo highlighted that many societal issues, including rising youth restiveness and criminal activities, could be traced to a growing disconnect between parents and their children. He urged parents not to outsource their responsibility to the streets or the media, but to remain pillars of mentorship, discipline, and love. “We cannot build the Nigeria of our dreams without starting from the home,” he stated.
In addition to parenting, the Youth Council President made a passionate plea for unity across religious lines. He called on both parents and communities to discourage divisive tendencies between Christianity and Islam, emphasizing that such disparities only deepen societal divides. “We must teach our children love, not labels. Unity in diversity is the strength of Nigeria,” Omomowo declared.
The conference concluded with a resounding call to action—urging all stakeholders to commit to raising morally upright, civically responsible, and well-guided youths. Omomowo’s message stood as a reminder that the journey to national transformation begins with strong homes and united communities.
