FASORANTI’S PASSING MARKS END OF AN ERA, NUT ONDO DECLARES
Teachers’ Union Describes Late Afenifere Leader as a Living Library Whose Legacy Will Endure
The Ondo State Wing of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), under the dynamic leadership of Comrade Ayodele Samuel Leke, has described the passing of revered elder statesman and educationist, Pa. Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, at the age of 100, as the end of an era, noting that his death represents a monumental loss to the education sector, the Yoruba nation and Nigeria as a whole.
In a press statement made available to The Democrat News Magazine in Akure on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, the union expressed profound sorrow over the departure of the centenarian, describing him as a living library whose wealth of knowledge, wisdom, experience and commitment to the advancement of education would remain an enduring source of inspiration to generations yet unborn.
According to the NUT, Pa. Fasoranti was more than a respected political leader and nationalist; he was a distinguished educationist whose life reflected discipline, integrity, selflessness and an unwavering belief in the transformative power of education. His contributions to the development of society and his commitment to principled leadership earned him an exceptional place in the hearts of the people.
The union noted that the late elder statesman embodied the virtues of honesty, courage, patriotism and service to humanity, adding that his exemplary life offered invaluable lessons to teachers, students, political leaders and Nigerians across all walks of life. His dedication to noble ideals, the statement stressed, would continue to illuminate the path for those committed to building a just, peaceful and progressive society.
The NUT Ondo State Wing further observed that the passing of Pa. Fasoranti had created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill, particularly at a time when Nigeria urgently needed leaders of his calibre, whose lives were defined by conviction, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the common good. The union prayed that his enduring legacies would inspire present and future generations to uphold the values he represented.
While commiserating with the immediate family of the deceased, the Afenifere family, the government and people of Ondo State, as well as the entire Yoruba nation, the union urged them to take solace in the remarkable life of service, honour and accomplishment that Pa. Fasoranti lived. It noted that although his physical presence would be greatly missed, his ideals and contributions would remain indelible in the annals of Nigeria’s history.
The Ondo State Wing of the NUT, therefore, prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the departed elder statesman and asked God to grant his family, associates and admirers the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. The union concluded that Pa. Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti might have bowed out of earthly existence, but his name, wisdom and legacy would continue to resonate as a shining symbol of exemplary leadership, educational excellence and service to humanity.
