Fasoranti’s Death, A Monumental Loss to Akure and Yoruba Nation — Femi Meshe

Fasoranti’s Death, A Monumental Loss to Akure and Yoruba Nation — Femi Meshe

A prominent Akure indigene, Mr Femi Meshe, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, describing his passing as a monumental loss to Akure Kingdom, Ondo State, Yorubaland and Nigeria.

Meshe, in a condolence statement, described the late Fasoranti as a father figure, an exemplary leader and a thorough son of Akure whose life of service, integrity and commitment to the progress of his people earned him respect across generations.

He said Fasoranti was not merely a political leader but a symbol of the enduring values of discipline, selflessness, courage and principled leadership, adding that his death had created a significant vacuum in the traditional and socio-political leadership of the Yoruba race.

According to Meshe, the late elder statesman’s influence extended beyond Akure and Ondo State, as he remained one of the respected voices in the struggle for democracy, good governance, justice and the protection of Yoruba interests within a united Nigeria.

He noted that Fasoranti’s commitment to education and public service reflected his deep understanding of the importance of human development and responsible leadership in building a progressive society.

Meshe recalled that the late leader’s contributions to education, politics and democratic advocacy would remain an enduring source of inspiration to younger generations, particularly those who aspire to leadership and public service.

He further observed that Fasoranti’s association with the progressive political tradition established by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, as well as his prominent role in Afenifere, placed him among the influential figures who helped shape political discourse in southwestern Nigeria.

The Akure-born public figure said the late centenarian’s life demonstrated that genuine leadership was measured not by the offices held but by the positive impact made on the lives of the people.

“Pa Fasoranti was a great son of Akure, a father to many and a strong pillar of the Yoruba race. His life represented a remarkable blend of wisdom, integrity, courage and selfless service. His voice carried weight because it was rooted in principle, conviction and an unwavering commitment to the common good,” Meshe said.

He added that the late elder statesman’s counsel, political maturity and commitment to justice would be sorely missed at a time when the country needed experienced leaders capable of offering guidance and promoting unity.

Meshe urged political leaders, traditional institutions, community leaders and younger Nigerians to preserve the values for which Fasoranti was known by promoting peace, accountability, education and purposeful leadership.

He also extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Akure Kingdom, the leadership and members of Afenifere, the Ondo State Government and the entire Yoruba nation.

Meshe prayed that God would grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss and that the late elder statesman’s legacy of service, honour and commitment to the advancement of his people would continue to inspire generations to come.
