Nigeria@66: Dr. Adeniran Oyebade Calls for Total Transformation, Renewed Commitment to Nation Building
As Nigeria celebrates its 66th Independence Anniversary, Dr. Adeniran Oyebade has called for a total transformation of the country, saying the occasion should provide an opportunity for sober reflection, renewed commitment and collective determination to build a better Nigeria.
Oyebade, in his Independence Day message, said the journey since independence has produced remarkable achievements as well as serious challenges, stressing that the time has come for Nigerians to move beyond mere celebration and embrace practical measures capable of transforming the nation.
He maintained that Nigeria possesses enormous human and natural resources capable of making the country a leading force in Africa and the global community, but noted that deliberate and sustained efforts are required to translate the nation’s potential into tangible development.
According to him, the transformation Nigeria requires must cover critical sectors, including education, healthcare, infrastructure, security, agriculture, power, employment and the economy, while institutions of government must be strengthened to deliver effectively for the people.
Oyebade stressed the importance of responsible leadership, good governance, accountability and justice, noting that national development cannot be achieved by government alone. He called on citizens, political leaders, professionals, entrepreneurs, traditional institutions and the younger generation to play their respective roles in nation building.
He also urged Nigerians to remain patriotic and united despite the difficulties confronting the country, saying the strength of Nigeria lies in the resilience, creativity and determination of its people. His call comes against the backdrop of renewed national discussions on the country’s development path as Nigeria marks 66 years of independence.
The Ondo-born public figure further advocated policies that would create opportunities for young Nigerians, stimulate productive enterprise and reduce the hardship faced by ordinary citizens, stressing that independence should ultimately translate into dignity, prosperity and a better quality of life for the people.
He congratulated Nigerians at home and in the diaspora on the anniversary and expressed optimism that with collective will, visionary leadership and genuine commitment to national development, Nigeria can overcome its present challenges and realise the aspirations of its founding fathers.
