The political atmosphere in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State, came alive as former Senate President Bukola Saraki received renowned Islamic cleric and scholar Sheikh Alhaji Sheu Agba, popularly known as 001, at his residence. The visit, which attracted a mammoth crowd of supporters and party faithful, has been described by observers as a significant development within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Earlier in the day, Sheikh Alhaji Sheu Agba and his followers paid a courtesy visit to the party’s secretariat in Ilorin where he held a closed-door meeting with the Kwara State PDP Chairman, Hon. Isa Adamu Bawa. The meeting, according to party insiders, focused on key issues affecting the growth, unity, and development of the PDP in Kwara State. During the engagement, the cleric emphasized the need for synergy among party stakeholders and stressed the importance of collective responsibility in strengthening grassroots mobilization.

Welcoming the delegation, Hon. Adamu Bawa expressed appreciation for the cleric’s commitment to the progress of the PDP, particularly in the South-West and Kwara State. He commended Sheikh Agba’s leadership qualities and acknowledged the innovative approach he has consistently brought into party mobilization efforts.

Following the meeting at the secretariat, Sheikh Alhaji Sheu Agba and his large entourage proceeded to the residence of Senator Bukola Saraki in Ilorin, where they were warmly received. Speaking during the visit, Saraki said he was honoured to formally welcome Sheikh Muhammad Yusuf Olajide, widely known as 001, alongside his supporters into the PDP family.

According to the former Senate President, the cleric has remained a strong organizing force across the South-West, noting that his decision to return his political base to Kwara was driven by a shared vision of restoring the state to the path of genuine progress. Saraki also expressed appreciation for the tribute paid by Sheikh Agba to the legacy of his late father, Oloye, which he described as a legacy rooted in empathy, service, and commitment to the welfare of the people.

He further urged party executives and stakeholders to work closely with the new members to strengthen unity within the party. Saraki noted that unity would be critical as the party prepares for future political engagements, stressing that the moment marked a new phase of cooperation and collective progress.

In his response, Sheikh Alhaji Sheu Agba described Bukola Saraki as a respected leader in Kwara politics and encouraged him not to be concerned about those who had left the party. He expressed confidence that many former members would eventually return to the PDP fold, adding that even if some chose not to return, the party would continue to grow stronger with new members embracing its vision.

The cleric also appreciated his followers for their dedication and unwavering belief in his leadership, noting that their support made the mission possible. He assured them that the momentum would be sustained as political activities gradually build up toward the 2027 general elections.

It would be recalled that Sheikh Alhaji Sheu Agba currently serves as the Chairman of the Mobilization Committee of the PDP in Ondo South Senatorial District. His support base spans several states including Ondo, Osun, Ekiti, and Kwara. He confidently assured party leaders and supporters that ahead of the 2027 general elections, he aims to mobilize over one million supporters to strengthen the PDP’s chances at the polls.
