In a compelling conversation with Democrat News Magazine during the official resumption of the 2025/2026 academic session, the Principal of St. Thomas Aquinas College (Catholic Wing), Rev. Father Joseph Ajayi, Ph.D., unveiled the driving forces behind the school’s rapid growth and academic excellence since his assumption of office.
According to Father Ajayi, the transformation witnessed in the institution is rooted in a culture of discipline, integrity and righteousness—values that are now deeply woven into the fabric of the school community.
“These virtues are not just ideals; they are lived out daily by our students and staff. That is the secret to our excellence,” he said.
He further revealed that the Catholic transition process, initially designed to span five years, is well ahead of schedule.
“Within a few years, we have achieved significant milestones. We now have students from JSS1 up to SSS1, and by God’s grace, the full transition back to a Catholic institution will be completed soon,” he added.
Rev. Father Ajayi emphasized that the college is guided by the ethos embedded in its anthem: “This school is for the strong, not the weak.” This message, he noted, is resonating among the students, who are showing remarkable dedication to academic and moral excellence.
“Our students are rising to the challenge. They work hard every day to be the best they can be, and this culture of excellence has come to stay,” he affirmed.
He praised the students for resuming with enthusiasm and immediately taking part in cleaning and organizing the school environment. Preliminary academic assessments, including the principal’s test, also commenced without delay.
“Everything has been put in place for a smooth and effective take-off. I’m pleased with the orderliness and commitment demonstrated by both staff and students,” he said.
Rev. Father Ajayi also extended his gratitude to parents for their cooperation and for ensuring the timely resumption of their children, allowing for an early start to academic activities.
