Hundreds of Indigent Men and Women in Owo Receive Support from Barnabas Aid, CAN 19 Northern States & FCT
In a powerful demonstration of Christian love, unity, and compassion, Barnabas Aid UK, in collaboration with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) from the 19 Northern States and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has once again put radiant smiles on the faces of survivors of the St. Francis Catholic Church attack in Owo, Ondo State.
The humanitarian outreach, which took place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, was a follow-up to the historic visit and initial distribution of rice and tubers of yam carried out on December 22, 2025.
That earlier visit was aimed at identifying with, mourning alongside, and supporting victims and survivors of the horrific June 5, 2022 terrorist attack on St. Francis Catholic Church, Owo.
True to their promise, the CAN leadership from the 19 Northern States and the FCT returned to fully deliver on the relief commitment made during the December visit.
This latest intervention saw the distribution of additional food items, including sugar, salt, seasoning cubes (Maggi), palm oil, vegetable oil, garri, and beans, further easing the burden on the affected families, especially during the festive season and its aftermath.
Addressing beneficiaries during the distribution, the Chairman of CAN in Ondo State, Rev. Fr. Anselm Ologunwa, explained that the exercise was the official presentation of all items promised by the Chairman of CAN, 19 Northern States and FCT, Rev. Dr. John Joseph Hayab, during his December visit.
According to him, Rev. Dr. Hayab had clearly stated that the visit and donations were made possible through the steadfast support of Barnabas Aid UK, an international Christian humanitarian organization known for its consistent assistance to persecuted Christians.
He noted that Barnabas Aid has continued to provide relief across four Northern States and one Southern State, standing as a beacon of hope for vulnerable Christian communities.
Rev. Fr. Ologunwa expressed deep appreciation to Rev. Dr. Hayab, the CAN leadership from the North and the FCT, and Barnabas Aid UK for their sincerity, love, and faithfulness in fulfilling their promise.
“This gesture is not just about food items,” he emphasized, “but about healing wounds, restoring hope, and reassuring the victims that they are not forgotten by the Body of Christ.”
The atmosphere at the venue was filled with gratitude and emotion as beneficiaries, including survivors and affected families, offered heartfelt prayers for the donors and the leadership of CAN.
Many described the intervention as timely, comforting, and deeply encouraging.
Indeed, this act of kindness stands as a shining testimony that even in the face of tragedy and pain, love can triumph, unity can heal, and compassion can restore dignity.
