A New Dawn for Community Healthcare:
Tomiwa Aregbesola Foundation Commissions Renovated Oda Health Centre
It was a historic and joyous moment for the people of Oda community as the Tomiwa Aregbesola Foundation officially commissioned the newly renovated Oda Health Centre, marking the beginning of a renewed era in grassroots healthcare delivery.
Once described as being in a state of complete comatose, the health centre has now received a total transformation through a multi-million-naira intervention by the foundation. The project included a comprehensive renovation of the facility and the procurement of essential medical equipment to enhance effective service delivery for residents of the community and its environs.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Monday, 29th December 2025, was greeted with overwhelming excitement and gratitude, as members of staff, community leaders, and residents expressed heartfelt joy over the long-awaited intervention.
Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Tomiwa Aregbesola Foundation, Engr. Tomiwa Aregbesola, returned all glory to God for the successful completion of the project, noting that divine guidance made the intervention possible.
According to him, despite suggestions that the project be sited elsewhere, he insisted on Oda in order to promote equity and build an egalitarian society. He emphasized that the foundation remains committed to improving lives at the grassroots, adding that several empowerment initiatives had been carried out by the foundation within the year. He called on other well-meaning individuals and organizations to emulate such gestures.
Engr. Aregbesola further reiterated that his passion lies in seeing a better society, stressing that the foundation’s focus areas include capacity building, economic empowerment, education, and social engagement, with special attention to Ondo State, particularly Akure, being his place of origin.
He also charged sons and daughters of Ondo State, both home and abroad, to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and Nigeria at large. Citing statistics, he noted that out of over 600 primary health centres in Ondo State, only about 112 have been renovated by the government, underscoring the need for more private and corporate interventions.
Earlier, an aide to the foundation, Mr. Adedipe Babatunde, described the health centre’s previous condition as deplorable before the intervention, applauding the foundation for restoring hope to the facility.
Representing the Deji of Akure, Oba Dr. Ogunbodede Aladeoyinbo Aladelusi, Senior High Chief Kilani Folorunso Ojomu Uro commended the foundation for its generosity and urged Engr. Aregbesola to do even more for humanity.
In her remarks, the Regent of Oda, Princess Mopelola Omomo, offered prayers for the donor, praising his love, compassion, and golden heart toward the people.
Similarly, APC Leader in Ondo Central, Hon. Aregbesola, charged the community to make proper use of the facility, while health officials including Dr. Cornelius Kunle Omoode, Director of Medical Services, Ondo State Primary Health Care Agency, and Dr. Adeymi Osowe, Primary Health Care Leader in Akure South, advised beneficiaries to maintain the renovated facilities. They assured the community that more medical staff would soon be deployed to the centre.
Dr. Omoode described the intervention as a major contribution to the state’s healthcare system, calling on other philanthropists to support government efforts in strengthening primary healthcare.
In his goodwill message, the Chairman, Akure East LCDA, Hon. Barr. Taiwo Samson, prayed for the leadership of the foundation, noting that the project would significantly improve the well-being of Oda residents.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Hon. (Dr.) Gbenga Fasua, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Adebayo, commended Engr. Tomiwa Aregbesola for what he described as an uncommon gesture driven by genuine love for his hometown.
He noted that many of Engr. Aregbesola’s interventions have been timely and impactful, contributing significantly to positive changes within the community.
In his words:
“The first time I met him was when he came to the Local Government Secretariat in a bid to support those contesting for elective positions, and he generously gave financial support.
“When I informed him about St. Gabriel Skills Acquisition Centre, where over 50 graduates had completed their training, he went ahead to purchase all the necessary equipment for them, running into millions of naira. These were presented in the presence of prominent personalities across Akure land.
“Let me use this medium to pray for him and his household, that God will bless them and that everything he does shall prosper.”
He thereafter cut the ribbon to commission the Health Centre and officially declared it open for use by the general public.
The event was well attended by dignitaries, traditional rulers, political leaders, and stakeholders, including senior chiefs representing the Deji of Akure, Oba Joshua Pelebe (Olu of Pele), High Chief Amusa Akuresanmi (Ojomo of Oda), media personalities, health officials, and family members of Engr. Tomiwa Aregbesola.
The commissioning of the Oda Health Centre stands as a powerful testament to the impact of purposeful leadership, compassion, and community-driven development.
