OGSA Alumni Association Hands Over Multimillion-Naira Perimeter Fence to Oyemekun Grammar School
Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, witnessed a landmark moment in its history as the Old Students’ (Alumni) Association commissioned a multimillion-naira perimeter fencing project, reaffirming the enduring bond between the institution and those it nurtured.
The 500-metre-long perimeter fence, fitted with five modern access gates, stands as a bold statement of safety, order, and renewed pride for the school community. The project was fully funded through the collective contributions of alumni across generations and continents.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, on 13th of December, 2025, the Global President of the OGSA, Dr. Adeniyi Ijogun, expressed delight at the timely completion of the project, noting that it was delivered one and a half months ahead of the end of the current executive’s tenure.
“This project was meant to surprise us all, and indeed it has,” he said. “It reflects what unity, vision, and commitment can achieve when alumni come together for the good of their alma mater.”
Dr. Ijogun commended the Chairman and members of the Project Committee, the global alumni body, as well as the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) and artisans occupying parts of the school property, whose cooperation ensured the smooth execution of the project.
Earlier, in a well-received welcome address, the Chairman of the Project Committee, Prof. Opeyemi Oniya (Snr.), represented by Engr. Ayodeji Olarerin, described the project as more than physical infrastructure.
“What we are unveiling today is not just a fence, but a symbol of our unity and our commitment to giving back to the institution that shaped us,” he said.
Prof. Oniya emphasized that the project significantly enhances the safety and security of students and staff, while also restoring order to the school environment. He appreciated the generosity of alumni members, the dedication of the committee, and the cooperation of the school management throughout the planning and execution stages.
In an interview with Democrat News Magazine, Engr. Ayodeji ‘Deji’ Olarerin (Class of 1982), Head of the Technical Team for the perimeter fencing, expressed deep fulfillment at the successful and timely delivery of the project.
“I am fulfilled that we were able to deliver this project on schedule,” he said. “Previously, students moved in and out of the school environment without proper control. With this fencing in place, normalcy and safety have been restored.”
He acknowledged the cooperation of the school management and other stakeholders, noting that their support was crucial to the project’s success.
Engr. Olarerin also revealed that the team faced notable challenges, including land ownership claims, spiritual concerns, and other obstacles, all of which were surmounted through perseverance and collective resolve.
“I sincerely appreciate all our people for their unwavering support, particularly the various sets and their leaders who stood firm from start to finish,” he added.
The commissioning of the perimeter fence marks a new chapter for Oyemekun Grammar School—one defined by security, collaboration, and alumni-driven development. As applause echoed across the school grounds, one message rang clear: when old students remember where they came from, the future of education grows stronger and safer.
