Ijapo High School, Akure Swears In New Prefects and Welcomes 410 Fresh Students in Grand Ceremony
Ijapo High School, Akure, under the amiable leadership of Dr. (Mrs.) Fadekemi Jogbodo (PhD), has continued to make remarkable strides in the educational landscape of Ondo State as the school recently added another feather to its cap with the swearing-in ceremony of newly elected prefects and the formal welcome of 410 newly admitted JSS 1 students in a colourful and memorable event.
The ceremony, held on the school premises on Friday 24th of October, 2025 drew distinguished guests, including representatives of the Parents-Teachers Association (PTA), members of the Old Students Association, and other well-wishers.
In her welcome address, the Principal of the institution and President of ANCOPSS, Ondo State, Dr. (Mrs.) Fadekemi Jogbodo, expressed her delight at the occasion.
“It is with great joy and a deep sense of pride that I stand before you today to witness the swearing-in of the newly elected prefects of Ijapo High School,” she said. “Today marks not only an important milestone in the lives of these young leaders but also in the continued growth and excellence of our great institution.”
Dr. Jogbodo reminded the new prefects that leadership is not about titles or positions but about service, responsibility, and integrity. She urged them to lead by example and embody the core values of Ijapo High School — discipline, diligence, honesty, and commitment.
“Dear prefects, as you take your oaths today, remember that leadership begins with example. Your words, your actions, your punctuality, and your conduct will be watched and often imitated by others. Be leaders who inspire, not those who intimidate. Lead with humility, listen with empathy, and act with fairness,” she advised.
She further encouraged all students to cooperate with their prefects to build a united and excellent school community, while appreciating teachers and administrators for their dedication and tireless efforts in molding future leaders.
The oath of allegiance was administered by Barr. Segun Oni, who charged the new student leaders to uphold the tenets of discipline and dedication that define Ijapo High School. The prefects were later decorated by the principal, Heads of Departments, PTA executives, and members of the Old Students Association.
Following the prefects’ inauguration, the school transitioned into the “Walk-In” ceremony, an annual tradition to welcome new students. The 410 newly admitted JSS 1 students, accompanied by teachers and senior students, joyfully marched from the Ijapo Gate to the school compound in a lively procession of songs and cheers.
During the formal presentation, the School Counselor introduced the new students to the Vice Principal (Administration), who in turn presented them to the Principal for official admission.
In her Walk-In Speech, Dr. Jogbodo warmly welcomed the fresh students to the Ijapo family, describing the day as the beginning of a transformative journey.
“Today marks the beginning of a new journey — a journey of discovery, growth, and transformation. This ceremony is not just a formality; it is your official entrance into the great family of Ijapo High School — a place where excellence, discipline, and character are nurtured together,” she said.
She urged the students to embrace responsibility, focus, and hard work, reminding them that every child is a star waiting to shine.
“Avoid bad company, respect your elders, and always do what is right, even when no one is watching,” she advised.
Dr. Jogbodo also appreciated parents for their trust and partnership, assuring them that the school remains committed to nurturing their wards intellectually, morally, and socially. She further commended the teachers for their unwavering dedication to excellence.
The event concluded with a goodwill message from the President of the Old Students Association, Engr. Ojo Felix, who encouraged the students to take their studies seriously, emphasizing that their future success depends on the effort and commitment they invest today.
With its blend of tradition, inspiration, and youthful energy, the dual ceremony stood as another testament to Ijapo High School’s enduring legacy as a citadel of learning, discipline, and leadership in Ondo State.
