Transformation in Motion: Principal, Mrs. Folayan Falilat Leads Apostolic High School Ilara-Mokin into a New Era of Excellence
In a heartfelt interview with Democrat News Magazine on Tuesday, October 7th, 2015, Principal of the Apostolic High School, Ilara-Mokin, Mrs. Folayan Falilat Omotope, reflected on the remarkable strides the school has made under her leadership and the collaborative spirit that continues to drive its transformation.
“I thank God for the help He has been doing me since my assumption of office,” Mrs. Folayan began, her voice resonating with gratitude and determination. Since taking the reins, she has undertaken several significant projects aimed at restoring the school’s infrastructure and uplifting its academic environment.
One of her first achievements was the renovation of a dilapidated classroom, a symbol of hope and rebirth within the school compound. Her efforts caught the attention of former students, including a classmate from the 1985 set, who visited and commended her progress. Touched by the improvements, the alumna asked how she could support further development.
“I told her about our intent to repaint the school gate,” Mrs. Folayan recalled. Moved by the vision, the 1985 alumni set pledged their support for the initiative—a project that now stands as a colorful testament to the enduring bond between the school and its past students.
Beyond that, the 2005 alumni set also made a generous contribution, donating exercise books and quality classroom furniture through Success Furniture, enhancing the learning experience for current students.
Further support came from the Michael Miracle Foundation, a philanthropic initiative founded by another old student. The foundation donated academic series worth ₦7,500 each to all Senior Secondary School 3 (SS3) students, a timely intervention aimed at boosting exam preparedness and academic performance.
As part of her broader agenda for academic excellence, Mrs. Folayan has implemented a robust pass monitoring system to ensure consistent attendance and discipline among students. She has also issued a clear directive to parents: mobile phones are not permitted in school. “Phones are a major distraction,” she warned, emphasizing the importance of creating a focused learning environment.
The school also witnessed the inauguration of its new prefects, a ceremony that showcased discipline, leadership, and aspiration. The selection process, according to Mrs. Folayan, was based on merit, character, and academic performance. The newly elected prefects, immaculately dressed in ties and name tags, took their oaths of office in the presence of staff and parents.
The solemn oath-taking was administered by Magistrate Dapo Adebayo, followed by a powerful prayer of commissioning led by an invited clergy. The occasion was marked by pride and joy, as parents expressed deep appreciation for the principal’s vision and innovation.
