Redesign of First Bank Alagbaka Roundabout and Installation of Solar-Powered Traffic Lights Restore Order, Safety and Beauty
The administration of Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa has once again demonstrated its commitment to sustainable urban renewal and efficient traffic management with the redesign of the First Bank Alagbaka Roundabout and the installation of solar-powered traffic lights in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
The once problematic roundabout, located at the busy intersection linking Fiwasaye, State Secretariat and Oja Oba roads, had over the years posed serious challenges to motorists, commuters, and commercial motorcyclists. Traffic congestion, frequent accidents, and prolonged delays had become a daily experience for those navigating the route. Despite the obvious flaws in the initial design, previous administrations failed to provide a lasting solution to the persistent problem.
However, under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa, and through the ingenuity and technical expertise of the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Lands and Housing, Engr. Olawoye Ayorinde Abiola, FNSE, FNICE, a permanent solution has finally been achieved. The faulty roundabout structure was carefully removed and replaced with a modern traffic management system, featuring solar-powered traffic lights that now regulate vehicular movement seamlessly.
This transformative project has not only restored sanity to the once chaotic junction but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the state capital. Road users can now drive through the area with ease, experiencing smooth traffic flow and reduced waiting times.
