Oyemekun Grammar School Akure Inaugurates New Prefects with Dignity and Purpose

…Agene Ebenezer Emerges Senior Prefect, Vows to Lead with Integrity and Passion

In a colourful and dignified ceremony held on Friday, September 26, 2025, Oyemekun Grammar School, Akure, under the exemplary leadership of its Principal, Mr. Adeniyi Oluyide, formally inaugurated a new set of student leaders for the 2025/2026 academic session.

The event, which took place within the school premises, was graced by notable personalities, parents, teachers, alumni, and friends of the school who gathered to witness the symbolic handover of responsibility to the new generation of prefects.

Delivering a heartfelt keynote address at the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Oluyide emphasized the importance of character, responsibility, and servant leadership in school governance.

“Today, we entrust our new prefects with the sacred duty of upholding the legacy of excellence that Oyemekun Grammar School has stood for over the decades,” he said.

He congratulated the newly appointed prefects, commending them for their academic achievements and moral integrity, which earned them the honour of leadership. The Principal charged them to be role models, advocates of discipline, and champions of academic excellence.

“Be the bridge between students and management. Lead by example in conduct, punctuality, dress, and discipline. True leadership is service, not power,” Mr. Oluyide charged.

He further urged them to embrace teamwork, form a strong Students’ Representative Council (SRC), and foster a learning-friendly atmosphere through proactiveness and integrity.

Also speaking at the occasion, Mrs. Ojo, Vice Principal (Administration), affirmed that the prefects had proven themselves worthy through loyalty and dedication.

“Leadership is about commitment, and these students have shown that they are ready to be torchbearers for others to follow,” she said.

The oaths of office were formally administered by Magistrate Adebayo, who appreciated the school’s commitment to raising responsible future leaders. He admonished the new prefects to serve as worthy ambassadors of the prestigious institution.

This year’s prefectship marks a special milestone in the school’s history. Master Agene Ebenezer was named Senior Prefect, while Master Adeyeye Favour and Master Nwanama Favour were jointly appointed as Assistant Senior Prefects—a first for the school.

In his acceptance speech, Senior Prefect Agene Ebenezer expressed deep gratitude for the confidence reposed in him.

“I am honoured by this trust. I promise to lead with humility, integrity, and a sincere heart to serve,” he pledged.

Among the parents present, Engr. Ebenezer Adeyeye Taiwo, Director of Transport at the Ondo State Ministry of Transport and father of Assistant Senior Prefect, Adeyeye Favour, congratulated the school and praised the leadership values instilled in the students.

“Favour has always shown leadership in church and at home. I believe he and his peers will not disappoint this school or their upbringing,” he remarked.

Similarly, Mrs. Christina Agene, mother of the Senior Prefect, expressed satisfaction with the quality of education and leadership training provided by the school.

“We are proud of what Oyemekun Grammar School stands for—discipline, excellence, and character,” she said.

With a blend of tradition and vision, Oyemekun Grammar School Akure continues to raise future leaders poised to make positive impacts in society. The new prefects, now vested with authority and duty, are expected to lead the school community into a year of greater achievements and unity.
