Ondo NOA Urges Mothers to Ensure Exclusive Breastfeeding

As the world celebrates World Breastfeeding Week from August 1st to 7th, 2025, the Ondo State Directorate of National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on mothers to prioritize exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of their babies’ lives.

In a Press Statement released from the office of the Ondo State NOA Director, Mr James Adekunle on Tuesday stressed that breast milk is nature’s perfect food, rich in nutrients and antibodies, and essential for infants’ growth and development.

According to the NOA boss, “exclusive breastfeeding saves lives by protecting infants from infections and malnutrition, boosts brain development, and strengthens emotional bonds between mother and child”. Additionally, breastfeeding supports maternal health, aiding recovery and reducing the risk of certain cancers.

Mr Adekunle emphasized that mothers need emotional, physical, and practical support to breastfeed successfully. Families can play a crucial role by allowing mothers to rest, offering encouragement, and avoiding early introduction of other foods.

In his admonition, the Ondo NOA Director disclosed that the Agency has commenced intensive Sensitization Campaign as we commemorate World Breastfeeding Week (August 1-7, 2025).

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) joins the global call to prioritize breastfeeding as a lifesaving, brain-building, and environment-friendly practice. This year’s theme highlights the need for lasting support systems across homes, health facilities, communities, and workplaces.

Mr Adekunle urged Health workers and community leaders to promote accurate information and challenge harmful myths saying Breastfeeding is a shared responsibility by building a supportive system around every mother for healthier children, stronger families, and a better Nigeria.
