Army Champions Character and Excellence as Command Schools Emerge as Beacons of National Education Reform
In a bold move to reshape the future of education in Nigeria, the Nigerian Army has unveiled plans to elevate its Command Secondary Schools into model institutions that merge academic excellence with character-building and leadership development.
Speaking during the 13th valedictory ceremony of Command Day Secondary School, Akure, the General Officer Commanding 2 Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu—represented by Colonel Kyari Babakura—reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to producing future-ready citizens grounded in discipline and integrity.
“Our vision is not just to compete, but to lead nationally in values, academics, and leadership,” he declared, attributing the renewed focus to the forward-thinking leadership of the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede.
He praised the consistent achievements of students in national examinations such as WAEC, NECO, and JAMB, noting that these successes reflect the quality of education and mentorship provided in Command Schools.
Beyond the classroom, the Army is emphasizing values like loyalty, resilience, and service. Onubogu urged the graduating Class of 2025 to carry these principles forward as they enter the next chapter of their lives.
Parents, teachers, and administrators were also acknowledged for their dedication. Onubogu assured stakeholders that infrastructural development and teacher training would continue to receive top priority to position Command Schools among the best in the nation.
Also addressing the students, the School Commandant, Lieutenant Colonel Shamsudeen Zailani, encouraged them to be proud ambassadors of the institution.
The valedictory event was a vibrant celebration, featuring cultural displays, music, and heartfelt tributes—providing a fitting send-off for the graduates and a glimpse into a brighter future shaped by the Army’s educational vision.
