Igoba Community Celebrates Ipagbon Festival
The people of Igoba Community, in Akure North Local Government, area of Ondo State has celebrated this year’s Ipagbon festival.
The Ipagbon festival which was being celebrated every year was witnessed by dignitaries within the local government.
Speaking with The Focus Magazine, High Chief Nathaniel Bamidele, the Odofin of Igoba land, who speaks on behalf the Kabiyesi of Igoba, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeniyi Adinlewa, the Obaloogun of Igoba land, said the festival has been celebrated since the day’s of their forefathers.
He said, “Ipagbon festival is one of the festival events being celebrated in Igoba land since the days of our forefathers.
Both Igoba and Oba-Ile were the same family. It was High Chief Odofin who left Oba-Ile, that introduced the festival into Igoba land.
When he was coming from Oba-Ile, he comes along with him a coconut in his hand and this was the reason we normally celebrated the festival in the community”.
Bamidele added that, the belief of the people of Igoba land is that, wherever they celebrated the festival, peace, unity and development are been witnesses in the land.
High Chief Bamidele urged the people of yoruba people to embrace their culture.
He said, ” I urged the entire people of yoruba people to embrace their culture. Culture is different from religious. Culture is our way of life while religion is your relationship with your God. We shouldn’t need to add the two together”, he said.
Bamidele used the annual festival to call on the sons and daughters of Igoba land to come home whenever the festival is being celebrated to come and asked for a breakthrough on their way’s.
