Ondo Workers, NU PCelebrate Governor Aiyedatiwa’s Pro-Worker Policies: NLC, Union Leaders Laud Wage Increase, Prompt Salaries
In a powerful show of appreciation and solidarity, prominent labour leaders and union representatives across Ondo State have commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for his unwavering commitment to the welfare of workers and pensioners, particularly his recent approval of the new N73,000 minimum wage and a significant pay rise for retirees.
Speaking on behalf of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Comrade Akin Sunday expressed deep gratitude to the governor, describing the gesture as a testament to his compassion and leadership. “This is why we confidently say Ondo State pensioners are truly lucky,” he said. “So far, we are satisfied with all that Mr. Governor has done. It is the reason we came out en masse to vote for Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa during the last governorship election.”
Comrade Sunday also called on workers across the state to remain diligent and committed to their duties, emphasizing that collective effort is vital for the continued progress of Ondo State.
Adding his voice, Comrade Bola Taiwo, Senior Special Adviser on Union Matters, praised Governor Aiyedatiwa for the prompt payment of salaries and other entitlements, a move that has restored dignity and stability to the lives of public servants.
From the transport sector, Comrade Wole Olorunsuyi, Chairman of the Motorcycle Operators Union of Nigeria (MOUN), appealed for greater governmental support for transporters, while Comrade Taiwo Fapetu, Vice Chairman of the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria, used the occasion to celebrate the efforts of transport workers and highlighted their essential contributions to the state’s economy.
Comrade Adekunle Adewale, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), called on the state government and stakeholders to urgently address the prolonged shutdown of the Ore Depot, which he said holds significant economic value for the region.
In local government circles, Comrade Sanmi Alake, NULGE Chairman for Akure North and the State Confederation Chairman of NULGE, proudly noted the governor’s donation of a long-awaited official bus to the union, calling it a milestone achievement. He assured the administration of continued support.
Also speaking, Comrade (Mrs.) David Bosede, Acting NULGE Chairperson of Akure South, praised the NULGE President’s quiet yet impactful leadership and extended her heartfelt appreciation to the Aiyedatiwa administration for its consistent support.
From Ese-Odo Local Government, Comrade Monday conveyed his satisfaction with the governor’s performance and urged all workers to uphold excellence in their duties, making the governor proud of their service.
